TEMPLATE SYSTEM FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS |
QUESTION:
Will porting my cylinders with the SportPort Template
System make my sled less dependable?
ANSWER:
No. Dependability is the number one priority that goes
into ALL SportPort Templates. Race Logic will NEVER sacrifice
dependability for horsepower no matter what gains can
be achieved.
QUESTION:
How much performance gain can I expect from using the
porting templates?
ANSWER:
This depends on many factors. Engine displacement, number
of cylinders, modifications made to the engine, engine
dependability concerns, etc., all play an important role
in determining how much performance increase will be seen.
While it is difficult to categorize all engines and porting
templates to individual horsepower amounts, we see typical
increases of 10-25+hp, depending on the model.
QUESTION:
Where do I need to set my jetting after porting with
the template system?
ANSWER:
This also depends on many factors. Altitude, temperature,
engine modifications, etc., all play crucial roles in
determining final jetting.
Porting done correctly, as is the case with the SportPort
Templates, maximizes engine efficiency. This in itself
should not affect jetting requirements. As a rule of thumb
though, all modifications should be followed up by increasing
jetting two sizes from current setting. Then you can begin
to drop back down while carefully monitoring piston wash
and plug color. Our experience indicates you will typically
arrive at or near your original configuration.
QUESTION:
What changes will be needed in my Constant Velocity
Transmission (CVT)?
ANSWER:
Depending on how well your clutching is setup to begin
with, you will typically need to increase primary clutch
weight. Porting increases horsepower, which will allow
you to load the engine harder, faster.
To realize the full potential of the horsepower increase,
you will need to make some clutching changes. Trial and
error, and field testing are the only ways to properly
configure your setup.
QUESTION:
Will my powerband change?
ANSWER:
In most cases, no. As said before, porting maximizes engine
efficiency. Good cylinder porting should not adjust your
powerband unless it is absolutely necessary. Our porting
system maintains your original powerband while increasing
horsepower throughout it.
QUESTION:
Will my fuel requirements change after I port?
ANSWER:
No. Although, you should already be using quality, premium
gas anyhow. Our porting system does not change your fuel
requirements unless your engine has had compression altering
modifications (i.e. high compression heads).
QUESTION:
I like the idea of porting my cylinders, but you do
not currently offer a template for my particular model.
What do I do?
ANSWER:
We are always developing templates for the new models.
Even though your model may not be listed, we may have
one that recently was completed and has not made it on
our site listing yet.
Since manufacturers add new models each and every year,
we are always trying to find ways to stay ahead. That
is why we offer the following; If there is a model where
we show a large enough request for template development,
if you send us your cylinders, heads, and pistons, we
will send them back to you with a free template system.
This offer only applies to models that WE feel there is
adequate request for.
